Therapy for Bikers

"For some there's therapy,
For the rest of us there's motorcycles.

Years ago I found myself dangerously close to a depression. I had 2 options: spend the next
5 years and thousands of dollars in therapy,
or take a "nonconventional" approach.I bought a 1987 1100
Harley Sportster.

The best therapist ever."

.... Grace Verderosa (the Biker's Code)

Individuals ride motorcyles for a number of reasons. Some for sport, some for relaxation, and some for excitement. The one experience that most bikers have in common is a feeling of being "in the world" and yet "separate from it." Bikers share a comaraderie much like veterans, no biker is a stranger to another.

How individuals select, ride, and maintain their bikes are extensions of their personalities. Often bikers find it very therapeutic to ride alone or with groups, many times sharing their deepest thoughts and feelings with fellow bikers.

Biker Therapy can be done one-on-one with the therapist or with small groups. The primary purpose of Biker Therapy is get away from the confines of work, family, and clinical settings and discuss personal issues in a comfortable familiar environment with fellow bikers.

" The real cycle you're working on is a cycle called 'yourself.'"

"The study of the art of motorcycle maintenance is really a miniature study of the art of rationality itself. Working on a motorcycle, working well, caring, is to become part of a process, to acheive an inner peace of mind. The motorcycle is primarily a mental phenomenon."

---Robert M. Persig
